When was the last time you wrote in cursive? It likely wasn’t recently.

Penmanship classes were dropped when the Common Core standards were adopted.

Schools in Texas are now starting to teach script again. Classes will start in the second grade beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.

Cursive was originally dropped as the need for computer competency skills increased.

However, longhand advocates say recent studies indicate the fluid motion used with script increases hand-eye coordination. They say it also enhances fine motor skills.
