NYSDOT greenlights project easing congestion on I-95 stretch

The state Department of Transportation is giving the green light to a multimillion-dollar highway reconstruction project to ease congestion on a stretch of I-95.
The plan would increase the flow of traffic on the half-mile stretch just before the Hutchinson River Parkway exit where a bottleneck of cars usually occurs.
George Torres, the district manager for Community Board 12, attended Sunday's night committee meeting regarding the new changes. He agrees improvements are needed, but isn't sure if the current DOT plan is the right choice.
He’s asking for alternative plans to be considered before a decision is made.
Construction is expected to begin sometime next year and last for close to two years.
