Shelter officials: Reaching New Heights in Fordham is living up to its name

News 12 got a look at the Reaching New Heights Residence in Fordham Friday – a 200-bed shelter serving single men who have jobs or are able to work, but are in need of assistance.
The residence, run by the nonprofit Bowery Residents Committee, also includes 135 apartments that people in the shelter can move into if they are employed but have a low enough income.
Rent in 111 studio apartments begin at $470 a month.
Officials say the goal is to get people back on their feet as quickly as possible. They say more than 100 people have moved through the shelter and have found employment since it opened last year.
