NYPD: Officer from LI wounded, suspect killed in Manhattan shooting

The NYPD officer shot in the arm in Washington Heights Thursday is from Long Island.

According to police, the officers were responding to reports of shots fired when they spotted the suspect.

Police say one of the officers, the plainclothes anti-crime officer from Long Island, chased the suspect into a parking lot.

The suspect allegedly took cover behind a car and fired three shots. 

The officer fired back once before being hit in the armpit.

Police say the officer's partner then drove up and shot the suspect in the chest, killing him.

It's not clear where on Long Island the injured officer is from.

He is in stable condition, and is expected to be OK.
