Family and friends are getting ready to say a final goodbye to an FDNY firefighter and Marine killed while serving in Afghanistan.

The body of Christopher Slutman was transported to New York Monday from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Slutman was killed earlier this month after a roadside bomb struck his military convoy.

The 15-year FDNY vet and Marine Corps staff sergeant dedicated his life to service.

"He wanted to serve this country and the city of New York and he wanted to serve it to the highest degree and he wanted to serve his family first and foremost," says Bobby Eustacem, of FDNY Ladder 27.

Members of the FDNY, both active and retired, showed up to support their brother.

"It shows the camaraderie that we feel for him, not only as a firefighter, but as a Marine," says John Newman, FDNY Marine Corps Association.

Wake services are set for Thursday at Lucchese Funeral Home in Van Nest. His funeral will be held Friday in Manhattan.
