Community demands justice for man fatally shot by police

MORRIS HEIGHTS -

A community came together to rally and remember a man who was shot and killed by police in Morris Heights a week ago.

Kawaski Trawick was killed by police at an apartment on Grand Avenue last week.

Police say officers were at the apartment responding to a call that a tenant was threatening neighbors. That's when officials say Trawick charged at the officers with weapons, which led police to fire four shots at Trawick, killing him.

Supporters say the story is too familiar and that they have a message for police.

"It's important to be aware of mental health issues," says Daniel Sutton. "And people who have experienced mental health issues need support, they don't need to be brutalized and killed."

Trawick was buried in Atlanta but his friends say he will always be remembered in the Bronx.
