Fire officials: Hoarding may have played a part in Edenwald fire

A fire ripped through an apartment in Edenwald Wednesday morning.
Officials say possible hoarding may have fueled the fire that broke out on the 13th floor of the Edenwald Houses at 11-54 East 229th St. around 3 a.m.
The fire chief tells News 12 it took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.  
Witnesses say a woman from the 14th floor ran out the complex warning people a fire erupted.
According to the fire chief, an older woman who was sleeping in a room was rescued.
"Units arrived at the scene, and there was fire showing from the 13th floor; they were able to get up their quickly and they entered the apartment and found a patient in the back bedroom," says Battalion Chief William Carroll.
EMS took the victim to the hospital where News 12 is told she is being treated for smoke inhalation.
