Man charged in shooting of 5-year-old sentenced for weapons possession

Michael Quiles, the man accused of shooting a 5-year-old boy in the head in Claremont back in 2017, will be spending the next 10 years in prison.
Last month, a jury found him guilty of criminal possession of a weapon, but previously acquitted him of attempted murder and first-degree assault charges.
Prosecutors say a stray bullet from his gun hit Jaheem Hunter in the head, putting the boy in a coma for months.
The boy made remarkable recovery, but his family says he still suffers from seizures.
Quiles pleaded with the judge to give him a minimum sentence of seven years. He says he wants to be home for his 11-year-old son and make sure he doesn’t get involved with a gang like he did.
