Tenants claim elevator in their building hasn't been working for months

Tenants in a seven-story apartment building on Intervale Avenue say they are fed up with trudging up and down flights of stairs after almost two months without elevator service.
Thomasona Moore and her neighbors say they feel like prisoners in their own home.
"Those stairs are killing me," Moore says. "It's horrible."
The elevator at 1118 Intervale Ave. has been out of service for almost two months.
It's a situation families in the building are all too familiar with. Tenants say the elevator was down for almost a year last year.
According to the Department of Building's website, complaints about elevator service in the apartment building go back as far as 2008.
Tenants say they woke up one day and found a note on the elevator door saying the elevator was out of service.
They say they were told by Wavecrest Management, which manages the building, that it will take three months to get a replacement part shipped to them. The tenants say they should not have to wait months for a replacement.
A spokesperson for Wavecrest Management issues a statement saying, "The safety of residents is our absolute top priority, and Wavecrest Management takes the malfunction of an elevator extremely seriously. On April 1, we were notified that the elevator was leaking and immediately shut down its operations to protect the safety of residents while a replacement part was ordered. The piece is scheduled to be delivered today, and the elevator will be restored promptly.”
