Program familiarizes special-needs children with 'big wheels' in city streets

With so many loud vehicles bustling through the city every day, a hands-on program is attempting to help children with special needs grow accustomed to them.
Tuesday was Big Wheels on Campus Day at the New York Institute for Special Education. Young students in the readiness program got a look inside different types of specialized vehicles they see every day in their community.
Students got a look at police cars, ambulances, sanitation trucks and more.
The kind of experience provided helps the children with special needs understand the people behind the wheels of these large vehicles are here to help, school administrators say.
