Gov. Andrew Cuomo says top state lawmakers have reached an agreement allowing cameras on school buses.
The legislation is supposed to make it safer for local school children getting on and off the bus.
School districts will soon be able to mount cameras on school buses and catch drivers who don't stop when students are being dropped off or picked up.
Gov. Cuomo says this bill was on top of his list, saying he was committed to ensuring school safety for thousands of children riding the bus.
The bill will hold reckless drives accountable. When a driver speeds by, the cameras will be able to capture the vehicle’s license plates.
Drivers will also face fines. That money will be split throughout school districts.
Anyone who is recorded passing a bus could get slapped with a $250 fine.
