Bronx Week 2019 kicks off with tribute to borough's centenarians

Bronx Week began its celebration Thursday by paying tribute to the borough's centenarians.
Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr. said that the festival could not start without first paying homage to those who laid the foundation for the community.
About 51 trophies were handed to attendees over 95 years old, and 17 were awarded to those over 100 years old.
Loretta Gross is one of the oldest Bronx residents at 107 years old. She was born 10 days after the Titanic sank. Her daughter says one of her mother's secrets to reaching this extraordinary age is her love of dancing.
Bronx Week is a 10-day celebration of the borough and its people.
