Red Cross recommends swimming lessons for kids

NEW YORK -

Swimming instructors are offering safety tips ahead of beach and pool season.

According to the CDC, drownings are the leading cause of death for young children ages 1-14.

The American Red Cross is recommending kids learn how to swim to stay safe around any bodies of water.

Instructors say the most important thing is to make sure kids feel safe and comfortable.

The NYC Parks Department is offering free swimming lessons to kids and adults.
