Crowds flock to Orchard Beach on sunny holiday weekend

Beachgoers were out in full force Sunday to mark the holiday weekend at Orchard Beach under sunny skies.
Bronx residents and out-of-towners alike were out with their families soaking in some sun and enjoying a dip in the water.
Orchard Beach is the only one on the Bronx, and it saw 1.7 million visitors last year. It stretches about 1.1 miles, making it one of the smaller beaches in the city, but that didn't stop beachgoers from enjoying Sunday's sunshine.
Swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are on duty, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. And for the third year in a row, free sunscreen is provided at all city beaches.
