Kids and parents alike at Learning Through Play Pre-K Center have taken to share some time together with a good book as part of the "Dads Read Tuesdays" program, which was created last year.
Assistant Principal Anthony Tucker created the program because he knows firsthand the importance of having a positive male influence in a child's life.
"I grew up poor in a single-parent home, not having any male role models and things like that, I feel like that negative experience has now pushed me to make sure that I'm giving these kids the best start and opportunity that I possibly can," says Tucker.
The program was a hit from the start -- more than half of the kids' fathers and other role models made the time to come in and read.
The program isn't Tucker's first -- he also created the Kicks and Book program, in which the school installed bookshelves at sneaker shops in Harlem.
