CONCOURSE VILLAGE -

A man was caught on camera swiping a donation box from a local mosque, according to police.

Police tell News 12 the box was stuffed with more than $2,000 in donations.

The NYPD released photos of the suspect carrying the large donation box out of the mosque just two weeks into Ramadan.

News 12 is told the man entered the Masjid Nur Al Islam mosque on Sherman Avenue and McClellan Street around 6 a.m. back on May 21.

Once inside, officials say he grabbed the box and fled the scene.

A congregant told News 12 there was a man sleeping inside the mosque when the suspect walked in and started to look around.

He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
