NYPD: Employee stops man with gun attempting to rob Crosstown Diner

THROGS NECK -

A man armed with a gun who was attempting to rob a popular diner in Throgs Neck was stopped by an employee, according to police.

Police say one of the workers stopped the suspect right in his tracks Friday around 4:30 a.m. at the Crosstown Diner.

Surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the man enter the diner on Bruckner Boulevard through the back door that was open.

He then walked up to one of the employees, a 67-year-old man, and told the worker he would shoot him if he got in the way of his attempt to rob the diner.

Police tell News 12 the victim fell to the ground and hit his head. At the same time another employee, a 61-year-old man, came out with a knife and confronted the suspect, who took off without any money at all.

Police say the suspect is about 5 feet 11 inches, around 175 pounds and was wearing a black stocking over his head, a blue T-shirt, white shorts and white sneakers.

The worker who hit his head was taken to the hospital by EMS and had to get stitches.

Employees at the diner refused to comment on the incident.
