Jury finds 5 defendants guilty of murder, other charges in Junior slaying trial

Posted: Updated:
A jury has found five men guilty of murder and other charges in the slaying of Lesandro 'Junior' Guzman-Feliz.
Jose Muniz, Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, Elvin Garcia, Manuel Rivera and Antonio Santiago were found guilty of murder, conspiracy and gang assault. The five Trinitarios gang members were infamously captured on surveillance video dragging Junior, a 15-year-old Belmont boy, out of a Bronx bodega last June and hacking him to death with knives and a machete.
"I'm not going to have my son back, but those killers - those murderers -they're not going to be outside killing another kid, we have to stop the violence," said Leandra Feliz, Junior's mother.
Sentencing will be July 16.
"Today Junior's family, and in fact our entire city, has received a measure of justice," Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said in a statement. "I thank District Attorney Darcel D. Clark for her and her office's diligent prosecution of this case."

The borough's district attorney says this case became about more than just the murder of one young man.
"Junior came to symbolize all of the young people who have lost their lives to brutal gang violence," Clark said.
All of the defendants can be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum of life without parole.
An additional eight defendants charged with second-degree murder are still awaiting their trial in the case.
