Over a dozen high school graduates were gifted a bible and a laptop from the Ghana United Methodist Church as they prepare to go to college.

The church says it hopes the laptops motivate and inspire the students to achieve a higher education. It says it also gave students a bible so that they feel connected with the church and their spirituality as they begin a new chapter.

"A lot of people when they go to college--it's not that they lose faith but they get distracted by so many things," said Cornell Boakye-Ansah, who is going to the University of Albany. "So it's a good thing that they're trying to keep up based on God and presenting us with a bible and all that to keep us focused."

The church believes both are equally as important, as the two gifts will equip the students for every aspect of their lives.

"Once they go to college, we still stay in touch with them in so many different ways because we value their spiritual life and we believe that that is also a priority," said lay leader, George Ansah.

In total, 14 students received the gifts by being devoted members of the church. This is the fifth year the church has given these to students.
