Yankees announcer John Sterling to end 30-year streak behind mic

For the past 30 years, John Sterling’s voice has been synonymous with the New York Yankees – and he hasn’t missed calling a game since 1989.
Until this weekend.
Sterling, 81, told WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts that he is feeling a “little bit under the weather.”
“I plan to broadcast the games at Citi Field, and then I'll take the weekend off and then All-Star break, so I'll have a week to get myself together," Sterling said.
Benigno and Roberts both praised Sterling’s streak, calling it one of the “greatest ironman streaks of all time.”
“Who’s counting?” said Sterling.
The fan reports that Ryan Ruocco, of the YES Network and ESPN, will be behind the mic this weekend in Tampa Bay, alongside Sterling’s longtime partner Suzyn Waldman.
