Boogie Down Bites: Zona De Cuba

Posted: Updated:
THE BRONX -

A rooftop restaurant on the Grand Concourse that has only been open for a month has had the borough talking.

The partners of Zona de Cuba say they are bringing a different flavor to the South Bronx.

"The music, the palm trees, everybody feels the same vibe when they come in here. It's like you're transported to Cuba,” says Frank Polonia, general manager.

Zona De Cuba sits above the Post Office on the corner of the Grand Concourse and East 149th Street.

The restaurant is home to a live Cuban band and big plates.

"It took a very long time coming up with this menu because we wanted to serve large portions, and we also wanted it to be very creative, so everything's a showpiece, a conversation piece,” says Polonia.

Their most popular item so far is the deep-fried whole snapper stuffed with seafood.

"You're not going to find a menu as creative as this in New York City at all. You might have to go to Cuba to find something this unique,” says Polonia.

There's no corner-cutting on the cocktails, either. Bartender Audrey came in third place in Uptown's Best Bartender Contest.
