Police sources: Worker killed at Mott Haven recycling plant

An employee at a concrete recycling plant in Mott Haven was killed Saturday in an apparent accident, according to police sources.
The incident occurred at 475 Exterior St. at around 1:15 p.m.
A police source told News 12 that an employee of New York Recycling was working on a piece a suspended machinery when it broke off and landed on him.
The victim's name and age has not been released, but sources say he was working on the bucket of an excavator – the part of the machine that scoops up materials. As he was welding, the bucket broke off and fatally struck him.
The facility and the city Department of Buildings says workers use bulldozers to move rocks and other materials and there is no construction work on the site.
