ICE raids set to begin across major cities including New York City

THE BRONX -

ICE agents will reportedly arrest thousands of undocumented immigrants nationwide Sunday, but there are concerns that people who are not targeted might also be swept up in the raids.

City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and the mayor's office of immigrant affairs say that New York residents don't have to respond to ICE agents if they don't have a warrant.

Immigration lawyer Lymari Casta says that residents have the right to remain silent.

Mayor Bill de Blasio posted on social media that he received reports that ICE began raids a day early, but they were unsuccessful.

News 12 reached out to ICE New York for confirmation on Saturday's raids. An agency spokesperson says in part, "Due to law enforcement sensitivities and the safety and security of U.S. immigration and customs enforcement personnel, the agency will not offer specific details related to enforcement operations."
