2 charged, 4 sought in beating of motorist caught on video

Jersey City police have arrested two women and are seeking four more people in connection with the beating of a motorist that was caught on video.
Bria Exum and Shirley Burrows both face aggravated assault counts. Exum is also charged with burglary and endangering an injured victim. It wasn't known Tuesday if either woman has retained an attorney.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday. Video shows a 42-year-old Newark man being pulled from his car and then punched, kicked and stomped by the group. After an initial confrontation, he tried to get in his car and drive away before someone jumped on his windshield, breaking it.
The man is eventually seen lying motionless after the attack. He was treated at a hospital and later released, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed.
Councilman Jermaine Robinson represents Ward F, where the beating took place. He says that he was shocked by what he saw.
“I was in total disbelief. It was just horror, you know? It's just something that we have to do better as a community, making sure we get out front of those type of things,” Robinson says.
Police did not say what motivated the attack on the unnamed driver. But neighbors say that it may have started with a small traffic collision.
“A minute accident. You heard the saying ‘A mountain out of a molehill?’ That's just what it was,” says neighbor Quadir Askew.

Robinson is urging the remaining suspects to turn themselves in to police.
“If you're out there and you're doing something, you need to turn yourself in because it's going to be a lot worse if the police have to go out and catch you,” the councilman says.
Anyone who may have information about the attack is asked to call the Jersey City police anonymous tip line at 201-547-JAIL.
