Residents cool off at outdoor pools during extreme heat across NYC
Residents are finding ways to keep cool during this weekend’s extreme heat across New York.
While some residents are staying indoors with the air conditioning, others are taking advantage of outdoor pools, like those at Mapes Pool in Crotona Friday.
All outdoor pools in New York City are free of charge to the public and are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Due to the heat, hours are extended until 8 p.m. for all Olympic and intermediate-sized pools.
Some tips to remember when cooling off in outdoor pools this weekend include reapplying sunscreen periodically and hydrating. Doctors recommend staying away from sugary juices and alcoholic beverages during these dangerously high temperatures.
Cooling centers are open across the Bronx and all five boroughs. Places like community centers, libraries, senior centers and some NYCHA facilities are open for a cool down.
