Throgs Neck mother calls for traffic light at intersection where pedestrian was struck

THROGS NECK -

A Bronx mother is calling for a traffic light to be installed at a Throgs Neck intersection after a pedestrian was struck last week.

Dewey and Balcom avenues meet at a three-way intersection with only one stop sign.

Fire officials tell that EMS received a call for a pedestrian struck at the location last week. That person was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Taisha Thaler says she heard the accident happen. She says the area needs a traffic light to keep cars from speeding down.

Thaler is especially concerned because Ferry Point Park is across the street from the intersection and the playground at Throgs Neck Houses is just steps away.

"I have a child of my own, my 5-year-old, he is my world and I am very, very scared of him getting hit by these cars," Thaler says.

There are two speed bumps throughout the stretch of Balcom Avenue, but in addition to the traffic lights Thaler is hoping to get more speed bumps and more stop signs put in.

News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation, but has not heard back yet.
