Some Bronx residents have started a petition to bring a space for artists to the mall at Bay Plaza.
With Saks Off 5th closing in a few months, community activists are calling for a place with more culture.
"They talk about hip-hop, they talk about the Bronx, yet we only have one art supply store? Yet we only have one bookstore? You kidding me?" said Raphael Schweizer.
Supporters of the petition say they hope for a store that would equip creative people for successful careers. Ideas include an art supply store, comic book store, musical instrument store or a mixture of everything.
The petition states they want the store "to provide an artistic outlet" for residents of the Bronx.
Some people who started the petition say not having an art store in the Bronx has even cost them jobs.
So far the petition has about 300 signatures. They are asking for 500 signatures.
News 12 reached out to Prestige Properties, the company who owns the mall at Bay Plaza, for a statement. They have not yet replied.
