A lawmaker is calling out the MTA for the lack of accessibility at one of the Bronx's busiest subway stations.
Assembly member Karines Reyes is starting a petition that calls on the MTA to bring the No. 6 train subway station in Parkchester up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act to make it fully accessible to all riders.

“We have a lot of seniors in the area, a lot of people who are disabled,” says Reyes.

Reyes says the MTA should be able to make the appropriate changes, especially after this year's budget approval.
“We approved congestion pricing in 2019 budget, and now the MTA is going to have a brand-new source of revenue,” says Reyes.

The station was remodeled back in 2011, but the accessibility issues were not addressed then.
Many commuters News 12 spoke to said they have no option but to go to the Hunts Point station, which is 2 miles away.

News 12 reached out to the MTA for a comment. It said one of the four pillars of the fast forward plan is to dramatically improve accessibility at a faster rate than ever, including making 50 more stations accessible in the next capital plan so that no one is more than two stops away from an accessible station.
