Throgs Neck residents say they want more police officers in neighborhood

The Throgs Neck community has created a petition to increase police officers amid quality of life concerns around the 45th Precinct area.

The NYPD told News 12 there isn't a specific cutback at the precinct, it is just a natural attrition that happens throughout the year in all divisions across the department.

Dorothea Poggi says quality of life in the neighborhood has gone down -- with noise problems, car break-ins and panhandling going up.

Some residents mentioned the annual St. Theresa Feast back in June, where dozens of kids were caught on camera running through the festival, sending crowds into panic. The group allegedly damaged stores and cars.

The NYPD told News 12 the commanding officer of the 45th Precinct is aware of the concerns and is working with the community to address them. The NYPD also said the neighborhood coordination of officers has been successful, taking care of numerous quality of life issues.
