Extreme heat, thunderstorms cause wild weather day in the Bronx

Thunderstorms rolled through the Bronx Sunday evening, resulting in a flash flood warning.
The day started off with humidity and sunshine and by 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for New York City and warned residents to avoid strenuous activity and heavy exertion outdoors.
At about 5:30 p.m., lightning and thunderstorms came to the borough. A flash flood warning was then issued by the National Weather Service.
The rain stopped and the strong heat subsided within a few hours. The flash flood warning ended, but occasional lightning strikes were still seen in the area.
