An off-duty NYPD officer died after suffering a medical episode behind the wheel and crashing in Kingsbridge Heights.
It happened at Sedgwick Avenue and Hillman Avenue early Saturday morning. Police say the officer had a medical episode while driving, cause him to crash his car into a tree.
The officer, identified as Shane Sullivan, was killed by the medical episode and not the crash, according to police.
The 43rd Precinct tweeted a photo of Sullivan, writing, "'Sully' was a young, kind and humble officer who will be missed by all who knew him. We also keep his family and friends in our prayers during this difficult time."
Police say Sullivan had been in service for just under four years.
