People who live near the Soundview Ferry say that parking has become a nightmare since the service opened a little over a year ago.
News 12 first got complaints of the parking situation last year soon after the ferry launched.  Community members say that they have to park blocks away from their homes because people from other neighborhoods have been coming in and taking up spaces.
Community Board 9 is looking to see if the Parks Department would let them use an empty property next to the ferry, which they say has been vacant for 10 years.
The community board is also asking the city to extend the Bx39 down to the water because the only bus that does come down to the ferry is the Bx27.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation, which is in charge of the ferry, says people really aren't supposed to be parking to use the ferry. They say the ferry was designed for people who live and work close to the water. They also say about 70% of people who use the ferry are able to walk to the landing.
In a statement to News 12, the Parks Department said, “"NYC Parks is in possession of Block 3435 Lot 18, and it is currently under a concession license. We are waiting for revised designs from the concessionaire so that we may explore next steps.”
The MTA said in part, “We're aware of this request through the current Bronx Bus Network Redesign. Connectivity of buses with other modes of transportation such as subways is an important consideration in this process.”
Some Bx27 trips were extended to the Soundview Ferry in 2018, and the current terminal for the Bx39 is about 1,000 feet from the ferry.
