Abel Cedeno was sentenced to 14 years in prison Tuesday for a deadly school stabbing in 2017.

Cedeno, 19, was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and weapon possession in July.

Cedeno fatally stabbed Matthew McCree inside a classroom at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation. He also stabbed Ariane Laboy, who survived.

News 12 was told violence broke out in the lobby of the courthouse once the sentence was read aloud. In a video Tuesday, court officers were seen breaking up a scuffle reportedly after words were exchanged between supporters for Cedeno and the victim's family. Stabbing victim Adriane Laboy is also seen being subdued by officers in the video.

In court, Cedeno apologized for his actions, saying he regrets bringing a knife to school. Cedeno's attorney says he plans to appeal the sentencing.

News 12 was told Laboy was not charged in Tuesday's courthouse scuffle.
