Salon workers and activists came together Tuesday to rally for safer, healthier and more respectable working conditions in New York City salons.
Salon worker Yanelia Ramirez spoke out about her experiences at Envy Nail Salon on Third Avenue in the Bronx.
"They don't provide the proper ventilation, they don't pay you overtime, they don't provide you with a safe, clean place to eat," said Ramirez.
The New York Nail Salon Worker Association says it is now launching a campaign calling for industrywide reforms.
After being founded in 2016, the association was able to pass a New York state law to require ventilation in nail salons. The association says it is something many salons are still violating.
Organizers told News 12 that they will continue their fight until all workers have respectable working conditions.
