The Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department is sounding the alarm for a new fire engine and is turning to the community for help.
The department has been serving Edgewater Park since 1922 and is the only volunteer fire department in the Bronx.
The department says a truck, known as Engine 2, is a 1987 GMC that has served the community for 30 years and is now past its operational lifespan.
The volunteer fire department estimates to replace the specialized apparatus and get it customized would cost about $225,000.
It is hoping to tap into the City Council's participatory budget. Almost 140 people on the City's Council website have lent their support for a new engine for the volunteer fire department so far.
