Unpaved road in Clason Point becomes dumping ground for garbage, abandoned cars

Posted: Updated:
Homeowners say no progress has been made on an unpaved road in Clason Point.

A few months ago, News 12 first reported on the unpaved road becoming a dumping spot for garbage and abandoned cars. Homeowners say nothing has changed.

"We're so enraged because we have been fighting with all sorts of agencies," said homeowner Maura Elisa Tobar.

Residents say the road has become a welcome mat for all sorts of trouble in the area like vandalism and BB gun shots on their gates. Residents also say they have seen illegal dumping and abandoned cars.

Tobar has spent thousands of dollars over the years to protect her land and prevent cars from making U-turns onto her property. She says she continuously lays gravel and has installed a metal guardrail, metal poles and trees.

"We just want our tax money to be at work," said Tobar.

Back in May, residents showed News 12 blueprints of when they first bought their homes. The road is between Beach and Theriot Avenues and the developers told residents they had plans of making it O'Brien Avenue.

When it rains, it's prone to flooding and the greener brings unwanted wildlife. This forced homeowners to install metal  material, to keep the animals out.

However, residents say they are willing to work with the city to keep their neighborhoods clean.
