Police: At least 4 cars damaged after wreckless driver cuts through Bronx park

Posted: Updated:
An out-of-control driver barreled through a Bronx park early Tuesday morning – smashing several vehicles along the way on Tuesday.

Car owners say they believe the wreckage ended at a private parking lot at Thwaites Place and Barker Avenue. At least two vehicles were damaged, along with a fence.

A video taken about a half-mile away from the lot shows more damage at Pelham Parkaway North and Wallace Avenue. Police say two or more vehicles were smashed there at around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, including a Honda CRV, which appeared to be totaled.

"It seems he was, you know, driving very fast, to not be able to stop and ... it was a strong hit," said car owner Walid Salah.

Salah says the back of his Honda which was parked on Pelham Parkway North was completely blown out. He says it was next to a GMC Envoy who was smashed in as well.

Marcy Lewis believes the same driver is responsible for all of the damages.

"It's terribly frustrating. I just put new tires on the car, just put new brakes on the car and now I have to get a new front end," said Lewis.

Lewis says her friend tried to stop the driver and his passenger after their vehicle also took down a fence and finally came to a halt.

Police say it appears the driver cut through the park, taking out a bench and leaving tread marks behind on the grass. Police have not confirmed if the same driver is responsible for damage done at both locations.

"I was so grateful no one was injured because we actually have people who sleep on the benches sometimes," said resident Roxanne Delgado.

The only thing left behind by the vehicle that did the damage is a grill from what appears to be a Ford truck.

Police say the vehicle doesn't appear to be stolen. Investigators have not yet officially confirmed if the same driver is responsible for all of the damages.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

No one was in the parked cars at the time of the incident.
