A subway station shooting on Grand Concourse left a man dead Friday night, police say.
The shooting happened in the mezzanine area of the station. Police say it started with a dispute between a 25-year-old man and a woman who have a child together.
Police say the child was present at the time of the shooting.
During the dispute, police say another man, who News 12 is told was with the woman at the time, shot the child's father in the stomach.
Police say he fled the station and ran north up the Grand Concourse. Police blocked all entrances to the subway on all corners.
Detectives were seen going up and down the stairs. Police say they'll be able to see how it all unfolded.
"This took place in the mezzanine right in front of the token booth so we've got pretty good video, said NYPD Chief of Transit, Edward Delatorre. “We're downloading it now and once we have that video will be able to go further.”
The MTA tells News 12 it accommodated the NYPD's request to bypass the station while they investigated.
Police say they are ensuring the safety of the woman and her child.
