A Bronx woman inspired by the radio growing up in the Bronx is hoping to grow her career and inspire others.

At BronxNet Studio, D'Essence Romero is happy to be producing and hosting her own show.

She's comfortable in front of the camera now, but her first passion was radio as an only child growing up in Fordham.

"I wasn't in the streets, I wasn't raised that way. So I was home a lot, home alone and the radio became my best friend," says D'Essence Romero.

She says she found her own voice in college, then had the opportunity to learn more about broadcasting and producing through classes at BronxNet at Lehman College.

She created her own show called “The D'Essence Show” where she's had guests like La India, Method Man and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. From celebrity interviews to panel talks with women, she says the tone is fun, sometimes emotional and even serious.

“I want people to walk away with a friend, a safe haven and something nice to look at,” says Romero.

She even created her own tagline for the show, “#GetInLine.”

“Get in line with yourself, get in line with God, get in line with life. Just get in line! It’s catchy,” says Romero.

Every Tuesday, Romero and her crew record the show, and it airs on BronxNet on Wednesdays at 9 p.m.  

“It's my baby. It's something I put together and it's growing, like sometimes it's frustrating and so many people around me that keep me going. I've gotten this far, why not keep going,” says Romero.
