'Everyone has a voice': March against domestic violence held in Melrose

Posted: Updated:

Two women are banding together to tackle domestic violence, and they're getting youth and former gang members involved in their efforts.

Sherneice Gatewood-Ali, founder of "We Are Phenomenal Women" and domestic violence survivor, teamed up with fellow abuse survivor Marilyn Cruz, who is the founder of CEO of Palms Upon My Hands Inc. They organized a walk against domestic violence in Melrose Saturday morning.

The goal is to raise awareness and to give a voice to other women who are scared to speak up, they say.

Organizers invited the Black Spades New Direction, an organization made up of former gang members, to take part in the march.

Students from We Serve, a new club at the Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, also participated in the march as their first community service project.
