Police: Off-duty NYPD officer takes own life in Queens

An off-duty NYPD officer took their own life in Queens Tuesday night, police say.

Police say a call for a shooting came in around 9:20 p.m near Union Turnpike and 178th Street.

The victim was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at 10 p.m.

This marks the 10th active NYPD member to take their own life in 2019.
