Borough president encourages community to register for Tour de Bronx

Community members in the Bronx are invited to participate Sunday in the largest cycling event in the state.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is encouraging people to sign up before the event. Diaz was seen riding around Joyce Kilmer Park Monday to promote the annual tour.
The biking event started back in 1994 to show off the borough's neighborhoods, waterfronts and parks. It was also a way to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Officials are expecting at least 7,000 participants this year. Riders can choose from two paths. One is a 25-mile route and the other is a 40-mile route.
Both of the routes go through the Botanical Garden. Officials say they have had people from as far as Argentina, Poland and Norway participate in the past. They say it's a way for Bronx community members to see the borough in an entirely new way.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and the community can sign up online until Friday, or in person on Sunday. To rent a bike, you can go on the Tour de Bronx website.
