PS 17X dean faces assault charge involving 13-year-old special-needs student

The dean of P.S. 17X is charged with assault following claims he put his hands on a 13-year-old special-needs student.
Melvin Wigfall is facing a felony assault charge. The victim’s mother says the violent incident happened Tuesday and provided News 12 with photos of her child’s bruises.
The mother tells News 12 that her son came home that day with bruises on his neck and back. She says a woman who works at the school told the child to go to the back of a line after claiming he tried to cut to the front of it. That’s when the mother alleges Wigfall grabbed the teen by his neck and slammed him on a table.
She also claims he removed the boy from the student cafeteria to the staff cafeteria while still holding his neck.
“The school immediately reported these deeply concerning allegations, and this individual has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation," the Department of Education said in a response.
News 12 also reached out to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a reply.
