A Wakefield man claims he was forcibly removed from his car by police officers.
Cellphone video from Oct. 22 depicts the incident at the intersection of White Plains Road and East 241st Street. Everett Dawes claims a police car approached his vehicle, ordering him to move his double-parked car.
When the 68-year-old refused, police asked him to get out of his car. When he didn't, Dawes says officers pulled him out of the vehicle, handcuffed him and placed him under arrest.
"They could he'd just given me a ticket. They didn't have to pull me from my car," says Dawes. "They violated me by doing what they did."
Dawes, who says he had surgery on his arm because of a prior accident, claims he was dragged on the ground. He was taken to a hospital after complaining of pain after being brought to a police precinct.
Dawes believes he was targeted because of a previous complaint he filed against the NYPD.
"One of the officers always blocked my car and gave me tickets, so I reported him to internal affairs," says Dawes. "I did it like three times from there, that's how everything started," says Dawes.
The Wakefield resident was released from custody and not charged.
Dawes is in the process of filing a lawsuit against the NYPD. Police responded to a request for comment saying there is no record for an arrest on file.
