MS 296 students head to the ‘polls’ ahead of Election Day

Election Day is Tuesday, and one Morrisania school is teaching kids how to exercise their civic duties.
Middle school students at M.S. 296 headed to the "polls" Monday.

The group voted for class president, vice president and secretary among others.

The whole process was run by kids, with some signing students in and others handing out “I voted” stickers

The candidates have been campaigning this school year with posters in the halls.

Teachers say the message is to show the kids that voting and running for office are important parts of the democratic process.

They also want to prepare the kids for real elections when they turn 18.

M.S. 296’s election results will be in by this Friday.
