Allerton mother fears leaks, black mold in NYCHA apartment could put family at risk

A Bronx mother of three fears the leaks and black mold in her Allerton apartment may be putting her family's health at risk.
Cheyenne Farris says she has been dealing with these issues for a year. "It's really overwhelming," she says.
Farris says every time she puts in a ticket with the New York City Housing Authority, maintenance workers come and make temporary repairs. However, she says they tell her it's the leaky roof that needs to be replaced.
The family says they have stopped using two bedrooms affected due to the leaks. All three of Farris' children are sleeping in the living room, but now those mattresses are also getting moldy.
"It's hard for me, but I'm more concerned for my kids," says Farris. She says she first noticed the mold in her bedroom last summer when she was pregnant with her youngest child.
On Tuesday, Farris took her kids to the doctor for a checkup because she says lately they've been coughing. She says she fears the apartment is making them sick.
News 12 has contacted NYCHA for a response and has not heard back yet.
