Residents living in one Bedford Park apartment building say they're exhausted after dealing with a faulty elevator for years.
James Mullins says just last month the fire department had to cut open the basement gate to his building on Valentine Avenue- to save someone trapped in the broken elevator.
"There's people coming in and out of this place here from down the block, up the block, and they're coming in here to do their drugs and everyone's leaving their garbage outside because people are afraid to go down here," said Mullins.
Mullins says that's just one of the fallouts of having a broken elevator, which he says has been an issue for years."This is the worse it has been at this point," said Mullins.
The elevator was working on Monday, but Mullins says it's touch and go. He says he lives on the sixth floor and is worried about his neighbors.
One of the neighbors he told News 12 he is worried about is Jaylyn James. James lives at the apartment building with her family. She says she had to call an ambulance to bring her mother to the hospital over the weekend because she couldn't walk down the stairs.
News 12 has checked on the Department of Buildings website and found that there have been multiple violations. Most of the violations were in regards to the broken elevator, going back to 2003.
Mullins says many people in the building have just come to expect it at this point. Next week, Mullins says, he's bringing these issues to Housing Court. News 12 has contacted the DOB and the management company, Pistilli Realty, but has not heard back yet.
