NY Jets' Willie Colon holds turkey giveaway in the Bronx

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of Bronx residents lined up for a turkey giveaway at BronxWorks in Melrose on Tuesday.

Some of the residents say they waited in line for hours, but that it's an event that many look forward to each year. The event is all thanks to a partnership between BronxWorks, local businesses like Beatstro, Bricks & Hops, Assemblyman Michael Blake and the Willie Colon Foundation.

The foundation is a nonprofit started by Bronx native and former NY Jets star Willie Colon.

For the last six years, Colon's held the giveaway to make the Thanksgiving holiday a little less stressful for locals — and a way for him to give back to a community that he says helped shape him.

Over 1,000 turkeys were given out at the event to kick off the holiday season.
