A new beer garden in Mott Haven is putting its own spin on classic bar food, and it's owned by a Super Bowl champion who grew up in the Bronx.
Bricks & Hops is the creation of Bronx-native and former Jets and Steelers player Willie Colon.

"I'm from Melrose projects. I think there's a lot of pride that comes with that. I wanted to give back to the neighborhood. I wanted to keep it local and have Bronx locals feel like they can have a beer, have a good time and feel like they can do it right in their own borough of the Bronx."

Colon say Bricks & Hops offers more than just a sports bar vibe.

"It's just not a place where guys who love football, baseball, basketball could come, but for also for families to come and enjoy the atmosphere of the good food,” says Colon.

And what says the Bronx more than a chopped cheese! Bricks & Hops is turning the ground beef and melted cheese sandwich up a notch with its own style of seasoning.

"People have watched me, that knew me growing up in this community, they followed all my career. To be here in the Bronx, open up Bricks and Hops, it's almost like I've come back home, and it feels good,” says Colon.

A good feeling Colon hopes will also come across in every dish that's served.
