Students at P.S. 83 in Morris Park were treated to melodies of classical piano when world-renowned pianist and composer Tian Jiang performed before them on Monday.

Jiang shared his own pieces, "Shanghai Dream" and "Secret Desire," during a private concert at the school's auditorium.

"I always love to teach young children how to play piano and inspire them to learn the piano," Jiang said.

The concert was made possible through the school's partnership with the nonprofit Bronx Art Ensemble and the Foundation for the Revival of Classical Culture.

In 1981, the president of Carnegie Hall chose Jiang to be a part of the first cultural exchange between the U.S. and China. Next week, the students will see him perform at the famed Carnegie Hall as part of Beethoven's 250th celebration.

"I hope the music really inspires them. You know? Transforms them into that world," Jiang said.
